About Amaya & End-of-Life Doulas
What if I’m not sure what I need?
That’s okay. Many people come to us unsure where to begin. Amaya Doulas gently guides you through your options and provides a deeper sense of peace during uncertain times.
Is a Death Doula the same as an End-of-Life Doula?
Yes. “Death Doula,” “End-of-Life Doula,” and “Death Midwife” are all terms for those who offer emotional, spiritual, and practical support at life’s end.
Do I need to be terminally ill to work with a Doula?
Not at all. Many individuals seek our support to prepare for aging, explore spiritual questions, plan for end-of-life, or simply live more intentionally.
How do Doulas support families and caregivers?
We help families navigate difficult decisions, create space for meaningful conversations, and offer respite so caregivers can also rest and be cared for.

As members of the National Home Funeral Alliance, we assist with logistics, legalities, and rituals so families can care for their loved one at home after death in a sacred, personal way.
Pediatric End-of-Life Care
We offer specialized, gentle support for children and families navigating serious illness or loss—providing age-appropriate guidance, emotional care, and space for memory-making and grief.
Mind-Body Tools
Our doulas may use techniques like breathwork, Reiki, guided relaxation, or gentle movement to reduce anxiety and support physical and emotional well-being.
Guidance Through Life’s Final Chapter
Can Doulas help with medical or legal decisions?
We do not give medical or legal advice, but we help families talk through their options and support communication with healthcare teams.
Can Doulas support people with Alzheimer’s or dementia?
Yes. We help create a calm, respectful environment and offer guidance to families on how to navigate these delicate end-of-life stages with sensitivity.
What about legacy work?
We assist with memory projects—letters, recordings, scrapbooks, or symbolic rituals—helping individuals reflect on their lives and leave something meaningful behind.
Grief & After-Death Care
What support is offered after someone passes?
We continue to care for families who are grieving. From helping plan funerals and rituals to navigating paperwork or just offering a comforting presence—we’re here.
Do you offer grief counseling?
We offer emotional support during anticipatory and immediate grief. If deeper therapy is needed, we refer to licensed grief counselors we trust.
What happens if death is sudden or unexpected?
We’re available to step in—offering immediate guidance, helping with arrangements, and making sure no one has to walk through sudden loss alone.
Working with the Medical System
How do Doulas work with hospice or palliative care?
We complement—not replace—hospice care. While hospice focuses on symptom management, we provide emotional, spiritual, and logistical support, bridging the gaps in care and extending time and attention where it’s most needed.
Do Doulas provide physical or medical care?
No. Our role is non-medical. We support the whole person through presence, not procedures.
Planning, Cost & Accessibility
How much do services cost?
Rates vary based on needs and length of support. We offer both hourly and package options, as well as payment plans.
Is this covered by insurance?
Currently, Doula services are not covered by Medicare or private insurance, though we’re working with legislation to change that. Some services may be supported through grants or donations.
Can I gift Doula services to a loved one?
Yes. A gift certificate for Amaya’s services is a deeply meaningful offering—providing presence, guidance, and peace during a life-changing time.
Getting Started
How do I prepare for a Doula consultation?

What if my loved one is unsure about working with a Doula?
That’s okay. We always meet people where they are, offering gentle introductions and support at the pace that feels right.
What should I look for in a Doula?
Training, experience, personal alignment, and trust. At Amaya, our Doulas hold advanced certifications and belong to respected national organizations, ensuring the highest level of care.
